Here are just a few of the jobs of your lymphatic system:

It makes white blood cells called "lymphocytes" that destroy cancer cells, fungi, viruses and bacteria. Lymph tissue that makes lymphocytes is found in the spleen, thymus gland and bone marrow.

It removes waste products from the "tissue fluid" that surrounds all cells. If the lymphatic system is not working well, there is a backlog of tissue fluid and the waste products in it, causing swelling or edema and a toxic overload.

Lymph nodes are small, ball-shaped organs containing lymphocytes (the white blood cells). They are part of the immune system and act as filters or traps for foreign particles that don't belong in your body. These nodes are found throughout the body, linked by a network of tubular lymphatic vessels. Lymph nodes can trap cancer cells.
